Rebellious

Robin and I? We’re rebels.  We decided to break away from the pack and do something other than a color of our Diptych photos. We decided that we would do “Calm”.

Both of us have been having a rough time lately, and even though it is just a word, just a photo of an idea, going out in search of calm, having to keep my eyes open for the chance to photograph calm, was in itself a calming activity.

So. Presenting :  Calm,  And I would love to know, in the comments, by phone email or twitter : What is your idea of calm? When you are restless, when you heart is heavy, where do you go? What do you do?

I love robins photo, especially the blue tones. Driving down an empty, beautiful snowy road would be calming.

Unless you break down.

My Photo is of course of the bathtub, lit only by candles. I’ve got a book there, but technically, I wouldn’t be reading just by candle light because my eyes are getting worse.  I love the dark, or near dark, with hot water all around me.

So. What is your interpretation of calm?

  1. It’s funny, the drive before that was anything but calm. I was on the highway and trying not to die. Then I pulled off the highway early to take sideroads and I felt much more calm.

  2. I find the ocean calming. I think it is the steady rhythm of the wave that tends to slow down my breathing and even when there are people around, the sheer size of the ocean seems to suck the noise away.

    Love the bathtub shot

  3. @Robin – empty roads tend to do that to me too, especially after dealing with traffic. after driving through the city, getting to the highway is always nice

@metalmom – I was worried the bathtub shot was too dark, but micah liked that one. Ima post both this shot and the other one I considered on facebook later today

  4. Beautiful shots.

Either one of these will work for me. And the ocean too. Or just being alone in the quiet.

  5. Definitely the ocean. And picking a random page in the Bible and reading until I feel my stress draining away.

    Awesome pics, both of you!

  6. Love both of these shots! Nothing can calm me like the ocean, and it does it immediately. Sucks that Colorado doesn’t have an ocean. *sigh*
