It’s very late and I just got home from the city. I had wanted to take photos of Logan’s “bear” (he made a puppy) and tell you how much fun we had at Build A Bear, except, we ended up spending a good portion of the night in the Emergency room with my sister.
My sister is a three time Kidney transplant recipient, and her current – and last (due to excessive scarring) kidney is failing. She had been going in for weekly blood test to keep an eye on her creatnine levels – this shows the levels of toxins in her blood. Our kidneys convert those toxins into..well, pee, the higher the level, the less your kidneys are working. We were hoping the failing would be a very, very slow process. The results for her latest test had come in, and because my sister has no working phone, a police car -it was closer than the ambulance - came to her door and rushed her to the emergency room.
Her creatnine levels were off the charts. Almost twice as high as they were the day her heart stopped beating in the high school hallway.
Now that her kidney has passed the point of no return, Her choices are hemo dialysis - where thrice a week she is hooked to a machine all day long that will remove her blood, cleanse it and pump it back into her. On the days she does not have hemo, she will be very tired and ill as the toxins in her body increase. Her other choice is peritoneal dialysis which is something I do not know a lot about, other than when she had it, her peritoneal site got infected constantly. So much that eventually they had to stop it and switch to hemo. (She was on hemo for seven years before her last kidney transplant)
My sister has said many times in the past that should her kidney fail she would not go back on dialysis. Without dialysis she will die.
And so, while I think she will ultimately choose life, choose one or the other type of dialysis, I cannot know for certain, and so I worry. This is why I will not be writing about Logan and his Trip to Build a Bear, tonight.

that’s the bad news.
PD isn’t too bad. It’s draining all the fluids, not just blood.
HD is just switching the blood, with clean stuffs
I remember when she was on Hemo, the hours of hospital stays three times a week are not fun.
I’m almost positive that she’ll choose hemo. We’re a group of tough girls.
Hang in there
*sending lovess and positive thoughts*
