Something Fishy’s going on

Just before the Easter break, the elementary school set up a huge aquarium. Fish were not added until the week after Easter break. Something about the tank and water needing to be ready or some shit. A week after the fish were added, each child in the school was given a slip of paper to help name the fish.

Logan is obsessed with a striped black and silver Angel fish. He desperately wants it. He has named it “Angel Fishy“  and wants to bring it home to live with Fishy, our gold fish.

I explained to Logan that fishy and Angel Fishy would not get along and would fight all the time, and though upset, Logan agreed that the Angel fishy would have to wait until Fishy – who has outlived our expectation of life by 6 months- had died.

Tonight, however, we noticed that Fishy was swimming in a hyper, spirally movement, hence the upcoming blurry pictures, the damn thing would not stay still and Micah refused to reach in and hold it still. As well as his..her? erratic swimming, Fishy has something troubling going on with her…his?…It’s eye.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that Logan has somehow acquired otherworldly powers and is using some type of black magic to rid himself of his boring old goldfish so that it may be replaced with the shiny new Angel fish

One of Fishy’s eye’s are normal. A pretty golden circle with a black pupil. The other eye is a black hole of death. It’s soulless and scary. If there was such a thing as zombie demon fish, THIS is what I imagine their eyes would look like.

Normal eye
fisheyeblack
Very much not normal eye

I have an irrational fear that when we turn the lights off for the night, the now demonized fish will flip flip out of it’s tank and, leaving an ugly smear of fish slime and scales as it  slithers down the hall to my room, while I sleep. Once it reaches me it will  attach itself to MY eye, (out of some misplaced sense of eye envy, I imagine) and through that eye, suck out my brain.

Avenge me.

Let the flush of justice be heard ’round the world.

I’m going to miss you all.

  1. I’m pretty sure fishes don’t like peanut butter. It’s like vampires and garlic. So you should smear peanut butter all over yourself before you go to bed. And if I’m wrong about them hating peanut butter, if the fish does attack you, he’ll probably get stuck. So you know, win-win.
But that might be the drugs talking.

  2. Wow. I have a strange phobia about spiders and mice (dead or alive). But, I’ve never feared a goldfish attacking me in my sleep.

Thank God I don’t have any goldfish in my house, otherwise I probably wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.

Thanks for the new item to add to my phobia list.

  3. We had a Gar Pike once who commited fish-icide by LEAPING out of his tank, OVER the couch, and dying a flopping, fishy death in the middle of our living room – in the middle of the night. I found it the next morning, and it scared the ever-loving SHIT out of me. It was belly up, lifeless and alone on that great expanse of floor… I thought it was a giant slug! So lets just say your vision made me shiver. I refuse to get more fish. I think I am now fish-a-phobic.

  8. My husband insisted on getting a fish tank. If it weren’t for the fact that the catfish WILL NOT DIE, I’d dump the frikken thing out RIGHT NOW. God, fish are dirty and annoying, the dog is less work.

Can the angel fish live in fresh water or will you have to do the salt water thing?
