*Insert “Awwww” Sound Here*

I have a new nephew! His parents aren’t too fond of the big scary interwebs, so no pictures, but I can tell you he is darn cute! He and his mama are doing wonderfully!

Speaking of birthdays, the countdown is on ’til Micah turns the big three oh. Eleven more days.
The boys and I have been bugging the shit out of him since last year when he turned 29 that 30 is OLD. Like really old. Older than dirt, old and I need a cake that conveys the oldness of the occasion.

A diamond shaped Viagra cake is too cliche, plus trying to explain Viagra to a nine year old would be the opposite of fun. I thought about making one in the shape of a walker, but that sounds like a lot of work. I’m afraid that a cake in the shape of a cane will end up looking more like a candy cane so what do I do? Any idea’s?

My fallback idea is doing up a cake in the shape of his PS3 controller, but that is soooooo not keeping in the theme of his depends wearing, food gumming advanced age.

And yes, in six months when I turn 30, Micah fully plans on bugging me about it.

All’s fair in love and birthdays!

  1. ou could do the ol’ over the hill cake. Can you sculpt a vulture out of fondant? Or how about a coffin? Grimm Reaper? I have a Mario cake to do this week complete with bullet bills and goombas.

    Good luck!

  2. For my soon-to-be-ex’s 30 birthday I got a candle that said, “30 Here lies my youth” in the shape of a gravestone. Would that work as a cake?

  6. Gravestones are fun! You can write RIP phrase you want on them. Or, make a 9 x 13 cake with all kinds of different headstones with different sayings on them!

  7. do the graveyard cake–great idea!!!!– with all the little headstones–you could get some of those chattering teeth to put on it. Also you could put on little plastic canes, make a little box of Depends to put on there–the cake would be the easy part. Finding/making the toppers would be the FUN part. What else? A bottle of Ensure. A fake AARP card (or canadian equivalent), a “where’s my senior discount?” sign, you get the idea!

  10. Yeah, I’d do a plain sheet cake with black frosting – you can add the RIP for his youth, plastic false teeth, all that ‘old’ stuff (that I really know nothing about *coughcough*).

Congrats again on being a new Aunty!!

  12. I like the gravestone idea and to decorate around it put dirt and bugs (the boys would enjoy that part) with crushed oreos and jelly worms. Enjoy and I want to see pics after!

  13. You could go all retro and make a cake shaped like a cake. That’s how they did it in the olden days.
