In Which I ask for your help

First, WTF is up with the spam comments today? All day long I have been deleting comments, and I LIKE comments. Normally I just switch the URL to mine and delete the links, but after the third spam comment I got fed up and started deleting. On the plus side, one of the comments was on this post, which is one of my favorites. Of course it does remind me that we have yet to begin saving for the boys future therapy bills!

And now, the heart of the matter. A few weeks past, Hubs Laptop died. It died with no warning, he had it on and was watching TV, but when I looked over at it, the screen was black. The power light was still on, but the laptop itself was not. Cords and batteries were tested and checked, but the laptop remained silent.

We are planning on purchasing a new lap top for him, but this is where we need your help.

Other than walking into a computer store and purchasing one that looks pretty ( that’s how I got mine, it looked pretty and had buttons for me to push, so that’s the one I picked) I’m not sure how to go about finding a good computer for him.

I tried googleing laptops the other day, I even went so far as to email a few computer manufactures asking them what they would recommend (no responses, how rude) but I didn’t get very far, There is just so much out there to choose for.

Due to cost considerations, Mac’s are out of the running, and Hubs needs one that allows for fast downloads and uploads, as well as something that will run games, and be able to hold a lot of music. A LOT of music.

What are you using right now? What have you seen out there that peaks  your interest?  What would YOU reccomend for my husband – becuase seriously? I failed at shares nicely in grade school.

  1. I know you say that Macs are out of the question, but they aren’t all that more expensive than PCs, so I think it might be worth looking into at least.

Before my Mac I had a Sony Vaio and it worked well for me and lasted until I sort of broke it myself (broke the CD drive).

    good luck!

  3. Your best bets would be a Dell or HP, custom built from their respective websites. You can make sure you add the biggest hard drive possible. When it comes to videogames, Dell has some decent gaming laptops that should fit the bill.

  9. I needed a laptop earlier this year and asked my geeky former neighbour what I should buy. He suggested the Dell Inspiron 1420 … and I love it!

  10. I have a pretty black on that is shiny and it makes me happy. I was going to order one via Dell but I got the same thing at Best Buy for $300 cheaper. I have something like 2G hard drive/storage and stuff. The down side: It runs Vista and I don’t like it so much.

  11. So i am totally going to go against the grain here……..my very first computer was a MAC i book, i got it about 7 years ago…. before everyone had one… so there for no one could help me when it crashed…. and dear lord did it crash!!!!!! The logic board/memory board, went on it 3 times!!!! It was under warranty, and the grand total was $3000.00 spent toward fixing the thing. Now people i know who have them now (and there are many) swear by them! They tell me i got a lemon….. but that just leads me to believe that it’s anyone’s guess….. don’t buy for the brand, buy for what you need…. and pretty colors! I guess that wasn’t really against the grain… ah well! Happy hunting!

  12. Not a big Dell fan, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because I think they cost more than they should.

What is your price point? Email or IM me about this sometime, I get government discounts on several brands that might be able to save you some money.

  13. I wanted all the things your husband wanted. I got mine for $1000 less than the Mac.

    I got this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat142900050008&type=category

I’m not always happy with it though.
