The boy who made me a Mother

Nine years ago today, At one oh five in the morning, this boy was born and I became a mom.

He cried a lot in those first few weeks. I cried a lot too. I used to beg him to please just grow. I had read somewhere, that a baby’s crying will peak at six weeks of age, and I grabbed that sentence like a life line. I spent my time counting down the days till he grew. Praying and wishing and begging for him to age just a little faster.

First  he was two weeks old. Now three,  then four, five, and finally that magic day came and he was six weeks old. He didn’t cry as much anymore. Neither did I.

But he didn’t stop growing.

Nine years ago today he was an infant. Nine years from today he will be a man.

Presenting the Mummy Vampire Monster

It took until now, 11 PM, for us to finally finish the cupcakes, but they are done and we don’t have to worry about cake decorating for - oh, that’s right, In our family we have a birthday every freaking three months!

I fully intended to have the cupcakes baked and cooling before taking Logan to Pre-K in the afternoon, but I was felled by one of the worst headaches I have ever had.

It might have been the pain pills, or it might be that I just suck, but the first batch of brownies, 30 of them, were totally burned. As in to a crisp. Char. I had to go back to the store and buy another cake mix and start over. I finished baking the cupcakes six minutes before Blake’s Parent teacher Interview was to start. Interestingly enough, Hubs, Blake’s teacher, and I spent more time talking about sleeping in the nude than about Blake - who is apparently doing amazing in Grade One.

Before I show you the cupcakes, I shall add the disclaimer that While I made the cupcakes, the decorating was ALL hubs. He’s simply amazing, I just love watching him squirt that sticky stuff out of his tube! (the fact that when he is done squeezing his tube he lets me suck the tip clean doesn’t hurt either!)

First up : The Mummy

The Monster

And The Vampire(Hubs let me do the eyes and mouths on the vampires. I kind of sucked at it)

In total, Hubs decorated 30 for Parker’s class, (it’s his birthday) and 20 for Logan’s Pre-K class, Just because..Or cus, Uhm, I might have volenteered on his behalf to bring some cup cakes in and then waited til the last minute when he asked why we needed so much icing, to tell him he had 20 more to decorate…

Insert big sigh here

Fast approaching us in my son’s ninth birthday, and In the nine years since I have become a mom, I have gotten VERY used to doing nothing.

I haven’t worked at a job since high school, and this haven’t had to be up or dressed or showered at any particular time in the day. I have not had to worry about scheduling things so that they get done at a certain time or in a certain way. I am lucky enough to have a husband who, beyond having clean underwear socks and dishes,  who doesn’t care if I keep a clean house or make the beds.

As such, When I have days and days of things that NEED to be done by a certain time, on a certain day, I get so VERY stressed.

A quick run down of the past few days and the days ahead of me :

Friday: make a cake, and remind Hubs to decorate it for Parker’s Party on Saturday. (Parker had his birthday early becuase his actual birthday falls on a weekday.)

Friday: Make an effort to clean the house. (I refuse to have people over when the house is messy. REFUSE)

Friday: Deal with Hub’s father coming over to replace the air intake filter cover things as well as lecture me and Hubs on “Important Financial Matters” (translation : YOU SUCK! YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!)

Saturday: Parker’s birthday party - 12:30 PM til  8PM.

Sunday: Remember i need photos printed up for Logan’s Family day at Pre-K. Run to the city to get them done.

Monday: Wake up late, Drive the boys to school, Late. Fight my germs long enough to shower and take Logan to school for our scrapbook class.

Tuesday: make thirty cupcakes.

Tuesday: Remind Hubs to decorate 30 cupcakes

Tuesday: 5:15 parent teacher interview for Blake

Wednesday: Pajama day at school for the kids

Wednesday: Bad hair day at school for the kids

Wednesday: Take Sammi to grade Four for Parker’s Show and Tell.

Wednesday : Take decorated cupcakes to school for Parker’s Birthday

Wednesday: Bake another Birthday cake for Parker. Decorate it myself (EEK!)

Wednesday: 5:15 Parent teacher interviews for Parker

Wednesday: Another Birthday part for Parker - this time for family memebrs to attend

Thursday: Carve Pumpkins

Friday: No school (THANK GOD)

Friday: Halloween.

I’m sure to those of you who work all day and have to do this stuff in the evenings, it sounds incredibly easy, but I don’t handle change well. I like my routine, which is NO routine, and until all of this stuff has been dealt with, especially now that you factor in my cold, I am going to be next to useless for the next few days.

(I warned you ALL that I tend to whine a lot when I am sick. Do NOT say I didn’t warn you!)

S.O.S*

I’m ill.

It’s official.

First, Hubs got a cold. He’s actually still got it, and his efforts to cough up a lung keep me up at night. I find it hard to be sympathetic though, as he keeps taking Sammi out for potty breaks sans coat and shoes. He kind of deserves to be ill for that!

Then Logan got ill. First he was just coughing. He kept telling me he felt fine, no sore throat, but I am not sure he understood the question. Now he has a cough, a disgusting nose and virtually no voice. I feel bad for him - even though the only reason he wears a coat and shoes outside is becuase I force him to take off his swimming trunks and put proper clothing on!

I was fine until about five PM this afternoon when my throat started to feel a bit odd. Just a bit scratchy, a little sore. Now it’s on fire and everyone around me had better watch out because when I am ill, you can put me in a hospital nursery filled to capacity and damn it, I will still be the biggest baby in sight.

I plan on whining, pouting and placing blame on everyone but me for my cold.

Heaven help the person brave enough to mention I was out all afternoon today without a coat.

*Send over Soup. Preferably chicken noodle. The real stuff, not the noodle and broth crap. I want real chinks chunks of chicken in it, and make it extra thick!
