How I will spend The Fouth of July

Crying. And arguing. And swearing to GOD that I DO feed my child - ALL THE TIME - And REAL FOOD TOO! Meat! Potatoes! Corn On the Cob!

Because Logans annual YOU FAIL AS A PARENT appointment is scheduled for four ten on the afternoon of July the fourth. Enjoy your fucking fireworks. And barbecues. And Independence. At least I don’t have to pay for Doctor appointments!

Here’s the deal. Logan turned four on June 27th. pretty cool, eh? NOT! When Logan was eight moths old my Aunt bought him a snow suit. He wore it that year, and the next and the next. He still fits it and will wear it this winter. AGAIN. He fitsĀ  size 18 month clothing. I put him in size three shirts to cover his budah belly - and becuase it lets me slip into a fantasy where my child is actually growing and thriving, but the kid has not grown in. Two years. And six months. Not that I am counting.

But his Pediatrician is. And tomorrow when I stand Logan on that scale to be weighed and measured, and I have to watch his doctor make his secretive little notes on his clip board, well. It’s going to SUCK!

Check out this picture.

This is Logan days before his fourth birthday (In the red shorts) The little girl in the red hat beside him? Thats his two year old cousin. She’s not big for her age, either, Logan is just so, SO small for HIS!

  1. I know it’s hard to do… but don’t worry about it. Motley was the opposite. She was uber tall and uber skinny. She looked like I never fed her! Eventually, stuff evens out with kids. They do shit in their own time.

  2. So you mentioned a doctor appointment…I’m assuming your DOCTOR is on top of all this? ‘Cause I KNOW you feed your boys. Some kids just take longer - my grandson is going to be about 6′ tall, and about 10″ around in the waist (not much exaggeration). Blue, as long as your doctor is on it WITH YOU…don’t stress out. Each & every kid is different.

  3. I can’t remember a doctor ever telling me I failed as a parent. (I’m bigger than he is. Maybe he was scared of me.)

My niece was always very small for her age and underweight but she’s okay now.

  5. My daughter is/was like that as well. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. As long as he is healthy otherwise, I am sure he will catch up in the long run.

  6. My stepdaughter is 6. She just started wearing 4T clothes. Her brother is 13. By law he should be in a booster seat in the car because he doesn’t make the height or weight requirements. You tell a 13 year old he has to have a car seat.

Their father was the same way. He now stands a glorious 5 10. We all grow at our own pace in our own time, in our own way.

  8. I know doctors have every right to be concerned about a child that doesn’t grow, but do they ever take into account that he’s healthy and active otherwise? That counts for a lot. With all the childhood obesity raging you’d think they’d welcome a case like this every now and then.

  9. My grandson just turned 5 years old. He is wearing 2T shorts and 3T tops. He was a very light eater. We were really concerned about his lack of speech though. Come to find out (4 years later) his adnoids were huge and were blocking most of his throat. He wouldn’t eat much because when he did he would gag, then he would stop. Had those taken out and he is a eating machine now. Growing much faster also.

  10. He looks proportionate, you know? Not ultra thin for his height. Has he been following his growth curve? (Do they do that? Plot him on a graph and make sure he is following the curve and not dropping off?) I think he looks healthy. I don’t think you are a bad mom. Ashley went to kindergarten with some of her clothes being size 3T. But she was just tiny. Now she is taller than I am. Not much, but she’s okay, is what I’m getting at. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

  11. I agree with everyone that said as long as he’s otherwise healthy who cares? I hope your doctor doesn’t give you a hard time. You are doing everything right. So, if he’s concerned he should do some other tests to look for medical reasons. I know that it can be hard though… stinking doctors and their charts and timelines. Every kid is different.

  12. A big fat middle finger to the doctor for making you feel like that. What’s HIS deal?! I suspect he uses his position to feel superior to others, so that tells me he is waaaay insecure and probably has teeny weenie syndrome.

Logan’s the picture of health, the kid is HAPPY, and that doctor needs to climb down off the pedestal he’s put himself on and get with the real world.

    Can you change doctors?

  13. Has this doctor met you and you husband??? You are as short as physically possible….hahahaha….. and you husband is skinny as can be!!! Like if he was in a refuge camp he would be 10 possibly 15 lbs lighter than the rest of the group….. if neither of the parents have the genes for big or tall how the hell are the kids suppose to get them???? That’s like if my kids turned out to be smart……. well we wont have to worry about that happening!!!

  14. As long as he’s staying on the growth chart it shouldn’t be a problem. However… if he’s not he might have a hormone problem. Lil’ M just had a hand x-ray in January to determine if he had a growth problem. He did not. They use the x-ray to find his “bone age.” If the bone age is younger than his actual age, it’s good.

    ((hugs)) darlin’.

P.S. - I know the appointment is over already, but I wanted to show my support!
