Wii Would Like To Play

So today I finally had enough in my paypal account to afford a Wii. Thank you paid blogging! Naturally, we told the kids, got them all excited about Mario Cart and light sabers and OMG! Bowling AT HOME! And then we hopped in the car, drove to the city and bought a Wii.

FAIL.

We hopped in the car, drove to the city and did NOT buy a Wii. Even thought we went to SIXTEEN DIFFERENT STORES. Sixteen stores sold out. One store allowed us, grudgingly, to add our name to the 150 person long waiting list for a Wii, One storeĀ  told us “Check back on Fridays. We get Wii’s on Fridays, just not every Friday”, and fourteen stores’ sales clerks laughed at our feeble attempts to buy a Wii.

It’s hard to believe that a company as big as Nintendo STILL has not figured out how to adequately supply stores with their product. How long has the Wii been out? A year? And STILL stores 1. Have no idea when they will get any in, or 2. Get three (or less) at a time when the waiting list is sitting in the hundreds.

Wii Would Like to play. But Wii can’t. And that makes me very, very sad.

*Hubs will be driving (yay extra gas costs) into the city every Friday on the off chance that the one store gets a few Wii’s in. In the very unlikely event that wii do get a Wii, what games do you recommend?

  1. I don’t own a wii. I’ve never searched for a wii. I will look for a wii for you. Don’t hold your breath.

  4. The Wii Fit is awesome — as well as Guitar Hero and Mario Kart.

For the boys — I’ll suggest Carnival Games. Via the Wii, you play things like Skee Ball, Frog Leap, Ring Toss and a bunch of other games you’ll find at the carnival.

  5. I called a bunch of stores to figure out how to get mine and found out that generally all the stores in the area get them on the same day (usually they arrive Saturday night and are in the stores the next morning). To give you a clue when they will be in stores, they are only advertised in the Sunday newspaper ads (which actually come out on Saturdays), when they are getting a shipment in. Target employees will tell you what will be in the next week’s ad on Wednesday. When you know a shipment is coming in, you need to get to the store right as they are opening. We managed to get ours within two weeks using this “method.”

Also, you can buy them online, but it is nearly impossible to find just a console, they are almost always sold in bundles online. http://www.wiitracker.com is very helpful instead of clicking on a thousand sites a day.

  6. Best of luck to you – the Wii is awesome. Our family loves it and it actually bonds us more with Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, and various games we’ve rented (Raving Rabbids, Carnival Games, Marble Madness, etc)

    WE LOVE OUR WII.

    (btw, it’s in the shop)

  7. Ok so here is my bestest idea i thought of…most of the time you have better lkuck buying things online…go to sears, walmart, zellers etc onloine and you should have better luck getting one…it may take longer to get it due to shipping and shit but hey you would prilly get one sooner online than watiign ona waiting list..
    good luck

  8. My son just won a Wii at his Grad Nite party. The prize package came with the sports bundle and Guitar Hero III. He is ecstatic. I suck at baseball in video game form as well as IRL. He only let me have one at-bat. Stingy kid…

  9. The Wii is awesome, but I had 3 people (+ me) hunt one down for me in 2 different cities, and even then it took us months to get one. Favorite Mother-In-Law camped outside Toys R Us to finally get one. They received 20 and she was 18th in line. At the same time, a friend of mine managed to get 2 for me. For one brief moment, I had 3 Wiis. Then 2 of them were gone in a flash.

I think Nintendo does this on purpose, to maintain the hype.

One thing that works well around here is to try the smaller independant stores and… Loblaws. I don’t know if you tried those type of stores near your place, but every other week I see 3-4 Wiis at my local Loblaws. Of course, now that I know you want one, I’m pretty sure there won’t be any more Wiis at my Loblaws. But if I see one, I’ll pick it up for you. I read you live near Toronto.

For games, we have what came in the box (Wii Play), Star Wars Lego, Guitar Hero 3, Madden Football 08, Kabookii, and of course Zelda. The whole familii loves these games. Wii Fit, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers are on our list of games to get.

    Sorry about the long comment!

  15. The company is absolutely sending out less so the public wants it more. Make no mistake about it. They create their own demand.

And of course we ALL fall for it, because who doesn’t want a Wii?!

Good luck and have fun when ya DO get it!

  16. Hello? you’re on the internet, right?
Why drive around when you can shop, order, or at least call the store first?

I don’t friggen drive ANYWHERE, especially now with the gas prices, to “look for” something. I do as much online as I can or at least research and figure out where something is and just go pick it up.

  17. @Sheila – When I get mine, you can come over and play with me…

    @Amanda – I’m taking notes LOL

@Fantastagirl – I tried calling a few stores, but they will not release that information over the phone – mainly becuase they are fuckers. Stores here also do not release prices over the phone. Again, because they are fuckers

@Laci – Is it bad that we are picking up the wii fit BEFORE we havet he Wii?

And carnival games sounds like fun – for ME!

@dcfullest – Yea, Ive had no luck with calling, and the flyers will show they have wii’s in stock when they haven’t had them in weeks. Case in point, walmarts latest flyer has Wii’s but they haven’t had them in six weeks. i think it is becuase they are fuckers.

@whall – OMG Why is it in the shop? Quick kiss it better! get out the Dora band-aids!

@Jess – luckily, only .3 percent of stores who are willing to ship to canada accept paypal. Unluckily, those .3 percent do not stock Wii’s. they do however, have awesome vibrators.

@Peggy – Lucky little shit. Can I come play at your house?

@Mike – I am over 2000 Km from toronto LOL

@Mr. Fabulous – Bite your tongue! Fucker

    @Robin – Dude. i wonder. . .

@Finn – they might have a bigger stock, but refuse to ship to canada, or if they do, the duty fees make it impossible to afford.

@Lynda -nope. I fired of a nasty letter to nintendo last night I go this is response. “we are sorry we are such fuckers, NO WII FOR YOU.”

@Avitable – and amazon dot COM does not ship to Canada, they refer to you amazon.CA. amazon dot CA does not sell Wii’s becuase they are fuckers.

@phinz – I agree. They are fuckers. Big asshat licking FUCKERS.

@annie – again, I cannot call ahead becuase they will not tell me if they are in stock, they will not tell me the price, they HATE me, but not as much as I hate them!

  19. Well, then, the obvious solution is for you to move to the US. Wii would love to have you. Besides, if you come far enough south, you won’t have to deal with snow anymore. Good idea, eh?

  20. Holy cow, I did not realize they won’t ship to Canada. There’s NOWHERE online where you can order it?

See, this is one of those reasons we say, “It’s great to be an American.”

  23. They’re getting easier to find here in NY. My son camped out at Target and got one the very first day they came out. That will be 2 years ago in November. Good luck with the search. Good games, Guitar Hero, Mario Cart

  24. I bought mine at Amazon. Well, on Amazon from somebody who does business with Amazon, you know what I mean. The Sunday morning thing is true. The Target salesperson called me aside and whispered it to me. I felt like I was in a James Bond movie, but there were no good-looking people around. I second the Sunday morning idea.
