You can actually FORGET that whole “save for web” thing if it’s too confusing for you. Just use the “crop” tool in Photoshop and set the smaller size photo and the 72 resolution/ pixels per inch. Then just do “save as” and give it a new name so it’s separate from the original.

That “save for web” feature, you need to make sure all the little drop downs (what are there, like seven?) on that window are set to your choice, like I would do “jpeg” and quality “high”.
But yeah, you can just skip the whole thing if you crop smaller and at 72, you are basically making a photo for the web, anyway.
