If you want to demonstrate to your hubby how much fun his energy efficient chest freezer is, make HIM go freezer diving EVERY day.

Seriously--say, "Gee, I don't know what to make for breakfast/lunch/dinner/that thing we're going to/your mother/whatever. Go see what's in the bottom of the freezer for me, would ya?"

I think he'll get the point that his dumb buddy who welded his wedding ring to his own finger needs to shut the hell up.

Okay... here's another reason for the upright. You have that whole nipple disability thing. It's unfair that you should have to lean way into the freezer to try and find things when you could accidentally brush a nipple up against a frozen pot roast and require hospitalization.

In fact... shouldn't the government buy you an upright?

Sounds like no one agrees with me on the chest freezer, but I'm sticking to my guns. ;)

But I do want to add that on the newer ones, the lid (the whole thing for that matter) is very light weight, so you don't have to worry about you or your kids getting trapped inside.

Besides, the top of the freezer makes a great place to fold laundry.

I have a chest freezer, and if I had the space, I would have an upright. I'm too short to reach the bottom of the chest freezer, Mr. Incredible makes fun of me, but seriously if I fell in, I'd be a goner!

So I'd tell your DH - that it would be for your safety you need the upright...I'm not sure which one is more cost effective, but I'm with the line of thought that if you end up wasting food, you are wasting money.

And Mr. Fab - for those of us who don't have 24 hour grocery stores, you have to stock up...you never know when the power will go out for DAYS, or when you will be snowed in for days...

I have a chest freezer. There are things in the bottom-back of it that I know for a fact have been freezer-burning away for five years. The very idea of trying to defrost this monster (and it's supposed to be frost-free, but after 5 years of never being empty... well... so much for that!) - the very thought of the defrosting job makes me need to lie down with an icy gin-and-T.

My next freezer will be an upright. And any extra power usage - if there is extra - wil be compensated for by my stunning efficiency in use, not to mention less waste due to losing food for 5 years.

Get an upright, I say - and pacify the Men Who Don't Have To Deal With Freezers by picking out the spankingest green-designed energy-efficient model that your credit card can handle.

You know, since you asked...
;-)
